Queensland and Apples

My family and I have made the next move in our Christmas holiday. We drove up from Surfers Paradise this morning, dropped my Mum at the airport, and swung in to Brisbane. We’re staying at a friends house, who happens to be visting Perth, while we check out the region.

Fortunately my friends have broadband, and I’m jacked in to the net.

While surfing I found a story from the other day at Wired. I’ve always been confused with the Intel and Apple arrangement. To me there has always been more to the story. Wired’s article, Apple, Intel Clam Up on Macworld, makes a heap of sense. If Apple and Intel agreed to collaborate on home entertainment, then it would make the chip choice that much smarter.

The bigger question is whether Apple and Intel’s partnership extends to Viiv. Viiv computers will offer access to movies through subscriptions and pay-per-view and video-on-demand programming, not to mention music, games and photo editing. The entire package is tied together with a remote control, surround sound and automatic wireless networking with compatible electronic devices.

As usual, everyone is staying quiet about the coming Macworld. So we may not know for a few more days. However, if I was a betting man I’d have the odds against the alliance–I think Apple wants its own slice of the pie.
