The Gadget Show #31
The Gadget Show #031 (MP3 – 16.8MB – 48min 54sec)
Ever wanted to feel like Hiro Protagonist from Neal Stephenson’s novel, Snow Crash? Well, now you can.
Second life is a virtual world where you can build your own anything. In fact, some smart people are building things and selling them for real money. It’s a growing, evolving ecosystem, and you can access the basic service for free. It’s well worth looking at.
Today’s guest was integral in the development of Second life, and is now responsible for the world–from a technical sense. Cory Ondrejka is the Vice President of Product Development , and we talk about how he went from the working at the NSA to building games, the creation of Second life, and the future of gaming. It was a great chat, and it’s made we want to explore Second Life even more.
Thanks to Cory for the chat. It was great fun.

I will defiently check this out over the next few days. I have given up on MMORPG’s pretty much and this looks like a good idea.

Hearing a developer speak of Second Life, the way that Cory did, was both reassuring and exciting. Being fairly new in SL, I am interested in learning how this ‘home’ came to be; this interview shed more light on the whole background of this world I have come to love. I especially identified with the whole concept of SL as a community, for, it is that…the same as any other. I hope anyone who listens to this interview sees the sheer beauty of the whole idea…..for those who want a place to go, and experience, without killing rats, or searching for treasure in a forest:) I thought that Cory made that perfectly clear in this interview; Second Life is not a game, it is an experience, whatever you want it to be:) Great interview; the tech stuff was a bit beyond me, but, the more I hear, the more I absorb:) Thanks.
