Flock It
So the news has hit the blogosphere and media this morning that Flock has launched it’s beta.
What is Flock? It’s a browser, based on mozilla, that integrates with a few Web 2.0 applications: del.icio.us, Flickr, and weblogs.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be using the 0.5pre for the last week. It’s neat, and definitely the way browsers will head.
Every-time I launch Flock it logs me into my del.icio.us account, I can access Flickr in a window of the browser, and I can automatically blog by clicking a button. It’s amazing that no one else is doing the same.
At the moment it really still feels like it’s one-way traffic. Me communicating with my Web 2.0 accounts. When the accounts start speaking more actively with Flock I’ll be more excited. It’ll be fun when my browser tells me that a friend has posted a photo to Flickr, or that I’ve been invited to join a new group; all without me needing to check. When my browser starts to tell me websites that I might like based on my surfing habits in the last 10 minutes, fed through my del.icio.us account, it’ll make surfing more interactive.
That’s a fair way to go, but the Internet is definitely tracking toward community based interaction rather than isolated surfing. Bring it on.
